(NC)-Judging by the designer fall runways, femininity is lost. In its place, a tough, sleek and almost masculine woman with a poised, self-confident attitude has evolved. Oversized, draping fabric, with big shoulders is featured in Dolce & Gabanna, Jean Paul Gaultier and Ralph Lauren's shows. Meanwhile, Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vitton revived the biker style with knee leather boots, over-the-elbow gloves and head to toe leather. Like fashion, fall hair trends have kept the same attitude. This season, femininity is replaced with strong, sexy and bold looks.
This season Schwarzkopf Professional, an international leader in hair colour and care, has introduced Biker Chic, a short, cropped, edgy cut with various lengths and height assembled under one look. Inspired by low-side partings and clean hairlines, the shapes are fitted and worked around the head, with an air of masculinity and a woman's style in mind. The messier, the better.
"This season's uneven lengths and sharp edges are brought to the forefront of hair design," says Schwarzkopf's Master Stylist Robert Barbosa. "There is more visible disconnection."
Keeping with the new attitude, last season's fringe has grown longer and brasher. The fringe is cut into the eye with a sharp edge and a full length, instead of past seasons' feathered cuts. The hair around the fringe displays a multitude of layers; often, longer strands are positioned next to very short strands to accentuate the texture of this look. This style was tagged Modern Wave in Schwarzkopf's Essential Looks collection for Fall/Winter 2003, and is one of their six essential looks for the season.
"Modern Wave is a reflection of the confidence and strength in women today," explains Shantal Dupont, fashion director for Schwarzkopf Professional in Canada. "Hairstyles need to encompass strong shapes for the modern, strong woman."
